Behavior Plan In Miss Ellen’s room, we have three main rules that guide everything we do. 1. Work hard. 2. Be nice. 3. Stay safe.
All behaviors fall into these three categories. We will be using a clip chart this year to monitor and track behavior. If your child chooses not to follow the above rules, s/he will be warned (per their ability level) and then be asked to clip down. Students have the ability to clip back up, but their behavior must improve throughout the day. Likewise, if a student clips up for displaying great behavior, but chooses not to follow a rule after a warning, they may clip down. It is a moving chart that can change from the moment students walk in the door until they leave. This system helps students see consequences (good and bad) of their choices.
Students will get the chance to visit the treasure box every Monday for the previous week. To visit the treasure box, students must have a “green” or higher 4 out of 5 days at school (for shorter weeks, this will be altered).
Homework Our class homework is all on one page for each week. You will receive the homework page on Monday of each week in the “homework” section of your child’s BRIGHT binder and is due on Friday of the same week. The format is a “menu” type of page where the student can choose a few boxes to work on each night. There are nine boxes on each page. The one page format is designed to cover many of the areas that are covered in class without being overwhelming. Some of the skills will be duplicated for reinforcement of the skill, such as name and birthday. Other items will change weekly. This is NOT meant to be a page that the student completes alone. Many of the skills will encourage parental involvement and interaction, which will also bring awareness to areas in need of review. Homework IS graded.
There will be a section where you can write notes to let me know what areas your child excelled or struggled with on homework. I would love to hear from you about how things are going at home!
If you have extenuating circumstances or need to discuss homework with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me about it. I want this to be a rewarding and enriching time for you and your child every night.
Location and Procedures for Check In/Check Out Our classroom is located across the parking lot from PCES on the side of PCIS. Whenever you need to check your child in or out, you will first need to go to the front office of PCES and check in/out your student with the secretary. After doing that, you will be able to bring your child to the room/pick your child up.
Grading Scale A 90-100: Your child works well independently on center and classroom work and very rarely needs reminders/redirection to the task; requires little to no hand over hand help
B 80-89: Your child works independently, though may need adult help with some things and/or reminders/redirections to the task; may need some hand over hand help
C 70-79: Your child needs an adult with him/her during at least half of the activity time to assist with staying on task and completing work; usually requires hand over hand help
D 60-69: Your child needs an adult with him/her all of the time to assist with staying on task and completing work; requires hand over hand help for every task
***I will also utilize rubrics to help grade more "abstract" skills such as focus, working with others, completion, engagement, and participation in activities.***
